A subordinate unit of the 4th Psychological Operations Group, the 3rd Psychological Operations Battalion serves as the Dissemination Battalion for the group. Its three companies (Print, Broadcast, Distribution) control the Group’s organic media and communication capabilities, including radio, television, print, audio-visual, and other media types.
The Battalion can produce these materials at its home base at Fort Liberty (formerly known as Fort Bragg) or while deployed, especially if they have support agreements with host nations that allow them to utilize indigenous printing presses and broadcast facilities.
Bottle green, the branch color for Psychological Operations, dominates the 3rd Psychological Operations Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (AKA a DUI or unit crest). The sword in the center stands for military readiness, and the arced flashes invoke the image of a circle that represents total teamwork between different Army elements. Additionally, the flashes and sword together add up to three, which reflects both the unit’s numeric designation, the three types of propaganda (white, gray, and black), and the three types of PSYOP: Tactical, Strategic, and Consolidation. “Power to Influence” is the unit motto and succinctly describes its mission.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.
