U.S. ARMY 3RD MILITARY POLICE GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

One of U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command’s three Police Groups, the 3rd Military Police Group is headquartered at Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia and handles all felony criminal investigations involving U.S. Army interests or personnel in an area of operations that comprises the eastern half of the United States, the Caribbean, Central and South America (excluding Mexico), Africa, and Europe. It has battalions stationed at Forts Moore (formerly named Fort Benning until May 2023), Campbell, Myer, and Liberty (formerly Bragg) in the U.S (the last being the only Airborne-qualified unit in the Army Criminal Investigation Division, or CID) and one at Kleber Kaserne in Germany.

Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 3rd Military Police Group has retained its original designation since it was constituted in the Regular Army on 9 March 1965. Following a twenty-year period of inactivation, the Group was reactivated on 16 September 1992 at Fort Gillem in Georgia.

Buttressed by the unit motto “Justice Will Prevail,” the 3rd Military Police Group Distinctive Unit Insignia is rendered almost exclusively in the Military Police Corps’ branch colors of yellow and green. The scales of justice form the focal point of the insignia, overarched by three mullets (stars) that represent the Group’s numerical designation.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
