The design of the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Distinctive Unit Insignia reflects the feelings of pride and loyalty that the members of the “Arkansas Brigade” have for their home state.
Three stars in the green area are a reference to the United States, France, and Spain, the three countries to which the Arkansas Territory once belong; the green is an allusion to the lush foliage of the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests. In the center of the insignia, the diamond shape was inspired by the Arkansas state flag; the wavy bar running through the diamond is an emblem of the Arkansas River (Note: Arkansas is home to the world's only diamond-bearing site accessible to the public for digging.) The arrow itself is a reference to the Indian name “Arkansas,” while its horizontal position indicates that the arrow is in flight and a symbol of the 39th IBCT defending the state.
As of Autumn 2023, the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) remains an active unit and is headquartered on Camp Robinson, Arkansas. It is the largest major command and consists of almost half of the state’s Army National Guard strength and employs 11% of the state’s Army National Guard fulltime workforce. The 39th IBCT has units stationed in 37 locations in Arkansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.
