U.S. ARMY 380TH REPLACEMENT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 380th Replacement Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a DUI or unit crest, was originally approved for the 380th Personnel and Administration Battalion on 20 May 1985. It was redesignated for the 380th Replacement Battalion on 17 December 1996. A mountain and evergreen tree have a dual meaning: They allude to the Battalion’s location in the state of Washington and to the “heights” of the achievements mentioned in the unit motto of “Pride And Achievement.” Behind the tree and at the base of the mountain is a dark blue wavy bar, a reference to great water regions of the Pacific Northwest. A tower and fleur-de-lis bookend the evergreen, symbols of the Battalion’s battle honors in Central Europe and the Rhineland (tower) and France (fleur-de-lis). The dark blue of the bar and the scarlet of the tower and fleur-de-lis are the colors of the Adjutant General’s Corps.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 380th Replacement Battalion began its service life with the constitution of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 92nd Replacement Battalion in the Army of the United States on 21 January 1944. Activated on 3 February 1944 in Northern Island, the unit took part in five campaigns in the European Theater before its inactivation on 17 September 1945.

It was redesignated on 13 June 1947 as HQ and HQ Detachment, 380th Replacement Battalion and allotted to the Organized Reserves and allotted to the Organized Reserves (which became the Army Reserve in 1952). After nearly thirty-three years of inactivation, the Battalion was redesignated as the HQ and HQ Detachment, Personnel and Administration Battalion on 16 May 1983 and subsequently activated at Fort Lawton, Washington on 16 March 1985.

Its location changed to Redmond, Washington on 14 May 1988 and then again on 12 September 1993 to Bothell, Washington, by which time it had become the HQ and HQ Detachment, 380th Replacement Battalion. It would be ordered into active military service at Bothell in February 2003 and released from it a year later and returned to Reserve status.

It is not clear when the Battalion was redesignated as the 380th Adjutant General Battalion, but that was its title on 9 March 2013 when the Battalion cased its colors in an inactivation ceremony held at Staff Sgt. Joe R. Hooper Army Reserve Center in Bothell, its home location for previous twenty years.
