U.S. ARMY 375TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 375th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, often called a “unit crest,” or DUI, was originally approved for the 375th Transportation Group on 4 May 1976. It was redesignated for the 375th Support Battalion with an effective date of 17 September 2006. It is now worn by members of the 375th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, a U.S. Army Reserve unit stationed in Mobile, Alabama.

Brick red and golden yellow, the Transportation Corps branch colors, are employed for the scroll and text respectively on the 375th Support Battalion DUI to reflect the organization’s origins as a Transportation unit. The focal point of the insignia is a saltire, the “x” shape behind the heraldic fountain (disc with wavy blue lines) that connotes a roadway intersection and thus motorized transportation, while the fountain alludes to waterways, ports, and shipping; in combination they sum up the lineage of the organization. Additionally, a saltire is also a symbol of strong support and reinforces the motto “Strength With Mobility.”

A fleur-de-lis above the saltire is a reference to France and the unit’s participation in the Northern France campaign of World War II. The unit’s Meritorious Unit Commendation award, which it received for its service not only in that campaign but throughout its time in Europe, is represented by the saltire’s scarlet as that is the color of the military decoration, which is inscribed “EUROPEAN THEATER.” The Battalion’s second Meritorious Unit Commendation was awarded for the unit’s superior combat sustainment support operations in Regional Command-Southwest, Afghanistan, from September 2011 to August 2012.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

You can find guidance on wear of the DUI in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
