U.S. ARMY 237TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 237th Support Battalion was created when the 372nd Maintenance Company was expanded, reorganized, and redesignated on 1 September 2007 in the Ohio and Michigan Army National Guard as an element of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, with its headquarters at Cleveland. But the 372nd Maintenance Company’s origins stretch back to July 1881, and the seven units that were annexed into it (or each other) over the decades come from a slew of different branches of the Army—Artillery, Ordnance, Cavalry, Infantry, and Armor, to name some of them.

With seven annexations in its lineage, it’s impossible to follow even a rough outline of the 237th Support Battalion’s history, but you get some idea of the changes by looking at how many units have called this their Distinctive Unit Insignia Originally approved for the 2nd Battalion, 372nd Infantry Regiment on 23 April 1929, the insignia was rescinded on 6 May 1942.

In October 1951, it was approved for the 372nd Infantry Battalion—only to be rescinded again on 28 March 1963. It was then reinstated and redesignated for the 372nd Maintenance Company, with the symbolism and description revised, on 17 September 1992. It was given its current designation on the same date that the 237th Support Battalion was created: 1 September 2007. Today, it is worn by members of the 237th Brigade Support Battalion, 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Ohio Army National Guard.

A blue shield pays heritage to the unit’s past service as an Infantry Regiment, while the sheathed Roman sword in the upper right—adapted from the Spanish War Service Medal—commemorates the organization’s participation in the Spanish-American War. World War I service is memorialized by the oak tree and a gold bend charged with a gold bendlet: the oak is for the Meuse-Argonne campaign, and the bend is for Alsace-Lorraine. FIDELIS ET PARATUS is the unit motto, Latin for “Faithful And Ready.”
