U.S. ARMY 361ST REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 361st Regiment was originally constituted in the National Army on 5 August 1917 as the 361st Infantry and assigned to the 91st Division. During World War I, it was assigned to the 181st Infantry Brigade along with the 362nd Regiment and took part in three campaigns: Ypres-Lys, Meuse-Argonne, and Lorraine 1918.

Demobilized after the war, it was reconstituted in 1921 in the Organized Reserves (which would become the Army Reserve in 1952) as the 361st Infantry and was ordered into active service again in 1942, again with the 91st Division (now Infantry Division). Serving in Italy, it earned credit for participation in three campaigns, with its 2nd Battalion awarded a Presidential Unit Citation inscribed “BOLOGNA, ITALY” and the 3rd Battalion receiving the same award inscribed “LIVERGNANO, ITALY.”

The Regiment was reorganized in 1999 to comprise 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battalions as elements of the 91st Division (Training Support), now designated as 91st Training Division. All three Battalions were honored with Army Superior Unit Awards in both 2012 and 2017. As of 2023, both the 2nd and 3rd Battalions are assigned to units of
First Army, 85th U.S. Army Reserve Support Command: 2-361 is part of the 181st Multi-Functional Training Brigade and 3-361 is assigned to the 5th Combined Arms Training Brigade.

The Regiment’s motto, DUCIT AMOR PATRIAE, is Latin for “Led By Love Of Country.”

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

The distinctive unit insignia was originally authorized for the 361st Infantry Regiment on 8 March 1927. It was redesignated for the 361st Regiment on 24 January 1962.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
