U.S. ARMY 34TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

When the 34th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (also called a unit crest or DUI for short) was approved on 26 September 1962, the 30th Support Group was still designated as the 34th Quartermaster Battalion. Buff and blue, the predominant colors used in the insignia, are branch colors of the Quartermaster Corps. The rectangular objects colored buff, blue, and white that form a diagonal line are known as billets in heraldry; they allude to official documents that are involved in handling and processing military supplies, which are symbolized by the key and sword. PROVISUS VIRES. The unit motto, is Latin for “Provide Support.”
The 30th Support Battalion was originally constituted in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD), 34th Quartermaster Battalion (Philippine Scouts). The “Philippine Scouts” parenthetical designation was removed when the unit was inactivated 5 December 1948. Though activated on 8 August 1952, its organic elements were not constituted and activated until January and February 1961 and were subsequently inactivated on 25 June 1965 at Fort Bragg.

On 20 July 1966, the unit was redesignated as HHD, 34th Supply and Service Battalion. It would serve in Vietnam until 1971 under that title, earning credit for twelve campaigns and garnering a Presidential Unit Citation, a Valorous Unit Award, and two Meritorious Unit Commendations. Following a brief inactivation that began on 15 April 1971, it was activated and redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 34th Support Battalion, on 30 November 1971 and assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood (renamed Fort Cavazos in May 2023).

On 21 July 1975, the 34th Support Battalion was relieved from assignment to the 1st Cavalry Division and assigned to the 6th Cavalry Brigade, which was reflagged as the 2nd Multifunctional Aviation Brigade (MFAB) in 2005 and soon redesignated as a Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB), 2nd Infantry Division. There is no mention of the 34th Support Battalion as part of either the 2nd MFAB or 2nd CAB.
