U.S. ARMY 345TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Worn today by members of the 345th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, the 345th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 245th Transportation Battalion on 28 June 1972. It was redesignated on 1 September 199 for the 345th Support Battalion with revised description and symbolism.

The brick red and golden yellow tones are the branch colors of the Transportation Corps, the Battalion’s assignment when it was first constituted. Scarlet and green are the colors of the French Croix de Guerre with Palm, an honor the unit earned while serving in World War II and also represented here by the palm branch. A gold lion rampant is a reference to the coat of arms of Frosinone Province in Italy, denoting the location where the unit’s actions were noted by a citation in the Order of the Day of the Belgian Army; the three arrows the lion clutches symbolize three World War II campaigns in which the unit took part.

A taeguk below the palm leaf denotes the unit’s service in Korea for which it was tapped for a Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. The calumet (commonly called a “peace pipe”) positioned with the palm branch saltirewise (making an “X” shape) over a disc recalls the round shield and saltire elements on the Oklahoma state flag, denoting the unit's state of origin. And the large ring around the gold center simulates an automobile wheel, evoking the motor-transport mission of a Transportation Battalion.

uidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
