U.S. ARMY 325TH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 325th Military Intelligence Battalion was originally constituted in the Army of the United States as the 325th Headquarters Intelligence Detachment and activated in Germany on 14 July 1945 and was subsequently inactivated on 30 November 1946. In February 1947 it was allotted to the Organized Reserves (later known as the Organized Reserve Corps and then Army Reserve) and activated on the 24th of that month. It was reorganized as HQ, 325th Military Intelligence Platoon (September 1949) and HQ, 325th Military Intelligence Battalion (June 1950) before inactivation on 1 April 1953 at Philadelphia.

More than four decades would pass before the unit was first redesignated as HQ, HQ and Service Company, 325th Military Intelligence Battalion (February 1996) and then activated at East Windsor, Connecticut (September 1997). The unit and its organic elements were ordered into active Federal service at East Windsor over a month-a-half period (30 August to 18 October 2001) from which it was released beginning in May 2002 and ending the following October. Its next call to service would result in period of active duty beginning in early February 2003 and ending for some units as early as 22 May 2004 (15 months) and as late as 8 February 2005 (two years). The service of Companies A and B during this second call to active service was later recognized with the award of a Meritorious Unit Commendation to each unit. As of Autumn 2023, the 325th Military Intelligence Battalion is a subordinate unit of the 336th Military Intelligence Brigade, Military Intelligence Readiness Command, United States Army Reserve.

Often called a unit crest or DUI for short, the 325th Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia features a shield divided vertically into halves with counterchanged (alternating) black and silver backgrounds and a side view of the Sphinx; these represent the over and covert operations of the Battalion, as well day and night operations. A blue globe symbolizes the Battalion’s ability to source information from anywhere in the world and utilize it in any mission regardless of location. A gold key visually conveys the vital role of intelligence when developing strategy and countermeasures. “Valor Vigilance Victory” is the Battalion motto.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
