U.S. ARMY 325TH FIELD HOSPITAL UNIT CREST (DUI)

Maroon and white, the two branch colors of the Army Medical Department, are incorporated into the 325th Combat Support Hospital with a maroon serpent entwined around a white fleur-de-lis.  The combination is inspired by the Staff of Aesculapius, traditional symbol of medical aid, but the fleur-de-lis takes the place of the rod and, combined with the laurel and oak leak, are indicative of the area of the campaign unit’s during its World War II service. Golden rays emanating from behind these items signify the light of knowledge which the unit helped to shine even brighter through its studies of patients to determine effective healing practices and fulfill its motto, “To Fight For Life.”

Also referred to as a unit crest or a DUI, the 325th Combat Support Hospital Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved on 10 March 1970 for the 325th General Hospital. It has been redesignated twice since that time, first on 6 July 1994 for the 325th Field Hospital, with its description and symbolism revised. The symbolism was also revised with the second redesignation on 13 November 20906 for the 325th Combat Support Hospital.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
