U.S. ARMY 310TH REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The 310th Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia, originally approved for 310th Infantry Regiment on 11 December 1925, received its current designation on 26 January 1962. Its blue shield is a nod to the organization’s origins in the Infantry branch (blue has been the official branch color of Infantry since 1903, and the lightning flash is taken from the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of the 78th Division (see below). In the upper right is a cross crosslet, taken from the arms of the Arrondissement of Commercy in which St. Mihiel is located, while the oak tree stands for the Meuse-Argonne region. “Allons Mes Enfants,” the unit motto, is French for “Forward, My Children.”

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

From the time of its constitution until 2007, the 310th Regiment has been either been assigned to or its units organized as elements of the 78th Division (designated as the 78th Infantry Division after 1942). In World War I, it fought with the Division and was awarded battle honors for the St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Lorraine 1918 campaigns, and in World War II it returned to Europe and fought in the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns. The 1st Battalion was later awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for actions at the famous Remagen Bridgehead, while the 3rd Battalion was also tapped for the award for combat at the Roer-Rhine Rivers.

On 1 May 1959, the Regiment, originally organized as the 310th Infantry, was reorganized as the 310th Regiment, an element of the 78th Division (Training) and began a new era of service as a source of Training units (it was ordered briefly into active service during Operation Desert Storm). Since being relieved from assignment to the 78th Division, both the 1st and 2nd Battalions have received an Army Superior Unit Award for outstanding performance in carrying out a difficult mission under extraordinary circumstances.

As of Autumn 2023, the Regiment’s 1st Battalion is assigned to the 181st Infantry Brigade and serves as a Brigade Engineer Training Battalion. The status of the 2nd Battalion, 310th regiment is unclear at this time.
