U.S. ARMY 310TH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 310th Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia—often referred to as a DUI or a “unit crest”—was approved on 11 June 1992. Its shield portion has an oriental blue base, the official primary branch color of the Military Intelligence Corps, while the black used for the griffin and scroll and the white of the crossed hooks and motto text highlight the unit’s capability for covert and overt operations and round-the-clock vigilance required for night and day operations.

A griffin is the mythical embodiment of alertness, with its black tone suggesting stealth and determination. The crossed hooks, or cramps, have the appearance of lightning flashes, thus emphasizing the speed and power of electronic warfare while alluding to the necessity of finding and holding information to carry out its data collection and exploitation mission. ARRECTIS AURIBUS, the Battalion motto, is Latin for “Always On The Alert.”

Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."

The 310th Military Intelligence Battalion was originally formed as the HQ and HQ Detachment (HHD), 310th Communication Reconnaissance Battalion on 25 February 1954 in the Army Reserve and subsequently activated on 1 November 1954 at Boston. In February 1956, it was reorganized and redesignated as the HQ and HQ Company (HHC), 310th Army Security Agency Battalion; on 26 July 1956, the 800th Signal Company was converted and redesignated to be the new Battalion’s A Company. (This addition gave the Battalion its only Battle Honor since the 800th Signal Company had a unit in its lineage that had fought in the Ardennes-Alsace campaign during World War II.)

Inactivated on1 July 1959, the Battalion was redesignated under its current title in February 1990 and concurrently withdrawn from the U.S. Army Reserve and allotted to the Regular Army. It was reactivated on 17 October 1991 in Panama and was still in the country when it was inactivated on 16 September 1995. A little over a year later, it was activated at its current location, Fort George G. Meade.

In January 2014, two Battalion Detachments—one from the entire Battalion, another from Company A—were tapped for a Meritorious Unit Commendation for its support of the 319th Military Intelligence Battalion, which had been charged with support of Combined Joint Task Force-101 for the Regional Command-East and the International Security Assistance Force.

The 310th Military Intelligence Battalion was a component of the 902nd Military Intelligence Group until the Group was inactivated in July 2022 and its mission assumed by the newly established Army Counterintelligence Command (USACIC), a major subordinate command of U.S. Army Intelligence & Security Command (INSCOM). Five months later, the 310th Military Intelligence Battalion was redesignated as the Technical Services Battalion and activated on 6 December 2022.

Headquartered at Fort Meade, the newly created Battalion provides Technical Counterintelligence through the detection, identification, neutralization, and exploitation of foreign intelligence entities and Insider Threats to enhance USACIC’s Investigation and Intelligence operations in support of INSCOM.
