U.S. ARMY 304TH MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 304th Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), known more commonly as a unit crest, was originally approved for the 304th Army Security Agency Battalion on 29 April 1976. It was redesignated for the 304th Military Intelligence Battalion on 2 May 1990. A taeguk inside a diamond simulates the appearance of an eye, with lightning flashes symbolizing technology; when combined they stand for the vigilance and swiftness of Army Security while also alluding to the service of the unit’s lineage in World War II and Korea.

A vine leaf below the diamond is a reference to the Rhine Province to indicate the unit’s participation in the Rhineland campaign, and the taeguk is a Korean symbol commemorating the unit’s participation in six campaigns in the Korean War as well as the Meritorious Unit Commendation it was awarded for that service. The black triangle connotes iron and is a reference to the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation inscribed “THE IRON TRIANGLE” that the organization was awarded. “Honor Vigilance Duty” is the unit motto.

Guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
