U.S. ARMY 301ST MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 301st Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 30 October 1990. The oriental blue of the shield and silver-gray of the dagger and lightning flash have been the branch colors of the Military Intelligence Corps since 1962, when the Corps was known as the Army Intelligence and Security Branch.

The crossed traditional dagger and the lightning-flash dagger symbolize the inherent danger of the mission and the requisite strength, speed, and the expert application of electronic warfare and essential victory. They also form an “X” that recalls the motto “The Force Multiplier.” A scroll of black and white (silver) alludes to the night and day activities of the unit.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."
