U.S. ARMY 300TH AREA SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 300th Area Support Group was organized in November 1971 and served as a multifunctional headquarters carrying out Support operations, including exercises and training. According to the Defense Visual Information Service, Soldiers from the 300th Support Group volunteered to deploy for Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

What is arguably the Group’s finest moment came in January 2004 when it was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tasked with the logistical support of more than 22,000 Soldiers in the southern region of Iraq, the Group’s convoy support centers at Kenworth and Cedar were also responsible for the provision of 7-million-plus gallons of fuel for nearly 130,000 vehicles and for conducting recovery operations that comprised 160 missions spanning 800,000 miles.

Before leaving the theater in later December 2004, the Group had ensured the successful redeployment of U.S. military units (1st Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Division) and the initial deployment of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Republic of Korea forces, more than living up to the unit motto of “Prepared For All Things.”

In the last months of its service, the 300th Area Support Group was stationed at the Gerow U.S. Army Reserve Center at Fort Lee, Virginia and was designated as a subordinate unit of the 99th Regional Support Command, United States Army Reserve. On 7 September 2008, the inactivation of the 300th Area Support Group was commemorated with the casing of its colors in a ceremony held at Mifflin Hall, Fort Lee.
