U.S. ARMY 2ND SUPPORT CENTER UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e) "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 2nd Support Center Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 2nd Logistical Command on 7 August 1968. In the center is a chess rook, a medieval symbol of a stronghold that embodies the unit’s logistics responsibilities in transportation, shelter, and supply of Soldiers and military personnel. At the top is a taeguk, a circle with two interlocking colors that is found on the flag of South Korea and which represents the unit’s formation and service in that country. A Z-shaped cable recalls the Korean numeral “2” and is a reference to the unit’s numerical designation. “WE PROVIDE” served as the organization’s motto and as a promise to the troops and other personnel dependent upon it for essentials.

Five days after North Korea launched a full-blown invasion against South Korea, the United Nations Security Council unanimously condemned the action with U.S. Security Council Resolution 82. That same day, 30 June 1950, the first cadre of U.S. officers began arriving to lay the groundwork for the gargantuan logistical effort that would be required should American troops be deployed en masse. On July 4, the Pusan Base Command was activated, only to be reorganized on July 13 as Pusan Logistical Command. It was not until 19 September 1950 that the organization was given its numerical designation.

Records regarding honors and awards issued to 2nd Logistical Command are nowhere to be found at the U.S. Army Center of Military History. Apparently, the unit was redesignated as the 2nd Support Center at some point prior to the First Gulf War, and was subsequently recognized with an Army Superior Unit Award for actions between 12 April 1991 and 30 November 1995. It was based at Fort Bragg during that period.

As of Summer 2023, the 2nd Support Center is not an active unit in any of the Army's three components (Active, Reserve, or National Guard).
