U.S. ARMY 2ND CAVALRY REGIMENT UNIT CREST

Like its CSIB, the Unit Crest (Distinctive Unit Insignia) of the 2nd Cavalry features an eight-pointed star that was famously worn by dragoons, pointing back to the unit’s original designation as the Second Regiment of Dragoons. Centered in the octagonal star is a palmetto leaf, representing the unit’s first actions in the Seminole Wars. Superimposed on the palmetto leaf is a fleur-de-lis, recalling combat in France during both World Wars. A curved scroll at the bottom is emblazoned with the motto “Toujours Pret,” signifying the willingness to answer the call of duty. (The regiment has an unofficial motto of “Remember your Regiment and follow your officers,” spoken by Captain Charles May at the Battle of Resaca de la Palma in the Mexican-American War.)
