U.S. ARMY 260TH QUARTERMASTER BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 260th Quartermaster Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, more commonly referred to as a “unit crest” or a DUI, was originally approved on 6 July 1967. It was then amended on 26 February 1993 to include metric measurement in the description and to revise the symbolism.

Blue and scarlet, the two colors primarily used in the insignia, are hues traditionally associated with the Quartermaster Corps and the Transportation Corps, respectively, the latter included to denote the Battalion’s transportation capabilities. A pair of single-warded, crossed key are symbols of Quartermaster organizations as keepers of supplies.

A wheel with black, wavy spokes is an allusion to the ever-flowing supply of bulk petroleum. Combine the two keys, six spokes, and the circle created by the hub and you arrive at an allusion to the unit’s numerical designation. “The Nectar For Victory” emphasizes the incredibly vital role petroleum plays in modern military operations.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 260th Quartermaster Battalion was activated in 1967. At its peak, the Battalion comprised five companies and nearly 1,000 Soldiers. It was deployed in support of the 3rd Infantry Division during the Persian Gulf War and in 2003 with the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom. It would go on to see two more deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, not to mention elements of the Battalion been deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, or Kuwait almost continually during the period 2010 to 2012.

Its Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment was twice selected for a Meritorious Unit commendation, the first being announced in December 2009 (for action between 30 August 2006 and 15 August 2007) and the second in 2010 (for service between 9 May 2009 and 22 April 2010).

On 22 June 2012, the 260th Quartermaster Battalion held a ceremony at Hunter Army Airfield to case its colors for the final time due to inactivation orders. The Battalion had been headquartered at Savannah, Georgia for twenty-eight years leading up to the inactivation.
