U.S. ARMY 260TH MILITARY POLICE COMMAND UNIT CREST (DUI)

The inactivated 260th Military Police Command was originally constituted as Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 260th Antiaircraft Artillery Group in the District of Columbia National Guard. That unit was converted to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 260th Military Police Group on 1 March 1959, and was designated a Brigade on 1 May 1985. It didn’t receive its final designation as 260th Military Police Command until 1 September 1992.

“Peace Law Order,” the unit motto of the 260th Military Police Command and its predecessor units, appears in black enamel on the base of the 260th MP Command Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, indicating solidarity and unity of purpose; the gold (yellow) used throughout the insignia denotes excellence and achievement, and along with green is one of the MP Corps’ branch colors.

Superimposed on a gold stand of trees is a green equilateral triangle; the trees are a reference to the Argonne Forest and denote participation in the World War I Meuse-Argonne campaign. The blue fleur-de-lis is another reference to France; the three green areas in the large triangle simulate the rocks on the coat of arms of St. Mihiel and allude to participation in that campaign as well. Three gold scale pans and two gold bars recall the three stars and two bars on the District of Columbia flag and allude to the unit’s home area at the time the insignia was approved (it was still based there when inactivated).

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
