U.S. ARMY 250TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The buff color used for the shield portion of the 250th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a unit crest or DUI, celebrates the organization’s origins in the Quartermaster Corps. An eight-spoked wheel in the center of the shield symbolizes both speed and the ability to facilitate supply, one of the unit’s main functions. JUDICIUM VIS INITIUM written on a scroll is the unit motto, Latin for “Judgment, Initiative, Force.”

Since it was originally approved for the 119th Quartermaster Regiment in April 1940, the DUI of the 250th Support Battalion—now worn by the 250th Brigade Support Battalion, 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, New Jersey National Guard—has undergone a half-dozen redesignations. Besides the 199th Quartermaster Regiment, units in the past that were assigned this insignia include the 250th Quartermaster Battalion (February 1951 and July 1961), 250th Armored Quartermaster Battalion (August 1956), 250th Supply and Transport Battalion (February 1964), and 250th Support Battalion (June 1987).

A Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
