U.S. ARMY 237TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI) ** OBSOLETE **

Chevrons have long been used in heraldry to denote support, and the chevron-shaped device here symbolizes the Support mission of the unit, its blue coloring alluding to its service in the Pacific Theater during World War II. “Provide And Sustain,” the unit motto, sums up the basic mission of the organization.

You can find guidance on the
wear of the DUI in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 237th Support Battalion has a history that dates back to 18 July 1881 and the organization of the 9th Battalion of Infantry in the Ohio National Guard. Even the most pared down synopsis of the unit’s history of subsequent reorganizations, redesignations, and consolidations would take up numerous paragraphs: it or units that have been annexed into it (it has seen seven annexations) have been redesignated more than 30 times, reorganized 25 times, and consolidated on 18 occasions. It was given its current designation as a result of the expansion, reorganization, and redesignation of the 372nd Maintenance Company on 1 September 2007.

As a whole, the battalion as a whole is credited with participation in campaigns during World War I (three), World War II (four, one without a streamer, and the War on Terrorism (Global War on Terrorism). These battle honors do not include campaigns in which individual companies took part in: Company A fought in two World War II campaigns, and Company E took part in Ypres-Lys campaign of World War I and the Northern Solomons and Luzon campaigns in World War II, earning an Arrowhead device for participating in an assault landing during the Luzon action.

Until the launch of the War on Terrorism, the lone military decoration awarded to the Battalion is a French World War I Croix de Guerre with Palm, although Company A garnered a Presidential Unit Citation for its service in Manila during World War II and Company E was tapped for the same award for Luzon and was also honored with two Meritorious Unit Commendations and a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. The Battalion was also honored with the non-combat Army Superior Unit Award for its performance between 1 September 2004 to 1 March 2005.
