U.S. ARMY 232ND SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 232nd Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, better known as a unit crest or DUI, was first approved for the 232nd Supply and Service Battalion on 11 July 1969. It was redesignated, with revised description and symbolism, for the 232nd Support Battalion on 5 June 1995.

Its crimson and yellow colors are those of the Ordnance branch, an allusion to the unit’s descent from the 32nd Ordnance Battalion. These colors are used for three Korean plum roses (yellow) in the upper field of the insignia (crimson) to denote three years of service in Korea for which the unit won two ROK Presidential Unit Citations. An invected chevron with nebuly simulates a cloud of gaseous elements; the alchemical symbols for purifying seen in the chevron refer to decontamination services related to CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear). Combined with yellow garb (wheat sheaf) on the blue background, they refer to the basic mission of the Battalion, summed up in the simple phrase “Satisfy The Need.”

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia."
