U.S. ARMY 230TH FINANCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 230th Finance Battalion was originally constituted on 26 June 1942 in the U.S. Army and activated as Detachment 6055J on 12 August 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. It was redesignated as the 30th Finance Disbursing Section in 1943 and under that designation took part in the Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley campaigns before inactivation in November 1947. It was reactivated in 1954 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and served there for over three decades.

In April 1987, the Section was reorganized as the 30th Finance Support Unit and was quickly redesignated as the 230th Finance Support Unit less than two weeks later. It was given its final redesignation on 16 October 1993 when it was reactivated as the 230th Finance Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas (Fort Hood has since been renamed Fort Cavazos). Since the launch of the War on Terrorism, the Battalion has been deployed on more than one occasion to Iraq and Southwest Asia, with its Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment and Companies A, B, and D being awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom between November 2005 and November 2006. Additionally, its Detachment C was also tapped for the same award for its outstanding service between October 2007 and July 2008.

The 230th Finance Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, was approved on 3 November 1993. Its silver gray and golden yellow colors are those of the Finance Corps, while black stands for solvency (as used with the phrase “in the black” to indicate availability of funds). A gold disc in the center represents excellence and high achievement, while the crossed swords commemorate the organization’s baptism of fire in World War II and service in Southwest Asia; they also denote teamwork and readiness.

“Always There And Ready” is the Battalion motto.
