U.S. ARMY 225TH ENGINEER BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

Part of the Louisiana Army National Guard and headquartered at Louisiana National Guard Training Center Pineville (previously known as Camp Beauregard), the 225th Engineer Brigade traces its origins to the Louisiana Air National Guard and the organization of Company B, 875th Engineer Aviation Battalion in New Orleans on 1 October 1952. Ten months later the unit was redesignated Company C, 891st Engineer Aviation Battalion, and in August 1954 it was redesignated again as Company C, 225th Engineer Aviation Battalion and 1 September 1954 allotted to the Louisiana National Guard.

The unit was transformed into an Engineer Group in 1963 with multiple battalions and outfitted with equipment suitable for civilian as well as military missions. Bulldozers, dump trucks, cranes, and other heavy equipment that could be used in both combat environments and in civilian emergency response situations to facilitate the repair of infrastructure, clearing of roads, establishing communications, and so forth. As of Autumn 2023, the Brigade comprises three Engineer Battalions: the 205th, 527th, and 528th.

Originally approved in 1956 while the Brigade was still an Engineer Aviation Battalion, the 225th Engineer Brigade unit crest (Distinctive Unit Insignia, or DUI) was amended to reflect the unit’s designation as an Engineer Group in 1968; the imagery remained unchanged when the unit was redesignated an Engineer Brigade in 2007.

The fleur-de-lis is a symbol of the Brigade’s home state of Louisiana, while the crescent represents the Brigade’s former HQ location of New Orleans. A diagonal white stripe, or bend, suggest a landing strip and points to the Brigade’s origins as an Engineer Aviation Battalion. At the bottom is “Confectio,” the unit motto that translates “Accomplishment.”

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1
, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap" respectively
