U.S. ARMY 210TH BRIGADE SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The maroon and white (silver) hues that predominate the 210th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (commonly called a unit crest or DUI) reflect the Battalion’s origins in the Army Medical Service. The Battalion’s medical origins are also reflected in the green serpent, a symbol of healing, while the ski pole on which the serpent is placed is a reference to the unit’s location at Camp Carson, Colorado when it was activated. Two jagged, diagonal lines refer to two European campaigns the unit fought in during World War II (North Apennines and Po Valley). FORTES DEFENSORES VITAE, the unit’s motto, is Latin for “Courageous Defenders Of Life.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 210th Brigade Support Battalion was originally constituted on 27 August 1942 as the 10th Medical Battalion and was reorganized and assigned to the 10th Mountain Division on 15 July 1943. It was inactivated following the end of World War II and remained so until 1 July 1985 when it was reactivated and again assigned once again to the 10th Mountain Division.

Since that time, it has been deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina (1999) as well as to Afghanistan and Iraq on several occasions in support of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. The Battalion as a whole has been awarded two Meritorious Unit Commendations for its service in the War on Terrorism, and several of the Battalion’s companies have earned military decorations, with four Companies (D, E, F, and G) being tapped for the Valorous Unit Award and two more (F and H) selected for Meritorious Unit Commendations.

As of Autumn 2023, the 210th Brigade Support Battalion is assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division and is based at Fort Drum, New York.
