U.S. ARMY 207TH EVACUATION HOSPITAL UNIT CREST (DUI)

Maroon and white, colors long associated with the Army Medical Corps, are used exclusively in the shield portion of the 207th Evacuation Hospital Distinctive Unit Insignia. Three maroon charges have been placed in the shield to for a white letter “M,” which stands for both Medical and Michigan, the unit’s home state. The crest of the insignia is a griffin upon a wreath is the crest of the coat of arms of the Michigan Army National Guard, selected to celebrate the explorer LaSalle and his ship, Griffin, that explored the Great Lakes. “SERVIMUS,” the Regimental motto, is Latin for “We Serve.”

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 207th Evacuation Hospital is no longer an active unit; its Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, was originally approved for the 187th Medical Regiment on 19 August 1925. It was redesignated for the 107th Medical Battalion in November 1943, for the 207th Surgical Hospital in December 1969, for the 207th Combat Support Hospital on 11 November 1975, and finally for the 207th Evacuation Hospital on 1 April 1984. Over the course of its service life, the Battalion was credited with taking part in eight World War I campaigns, four during World War II, and all three campaigns that comprise the Southwest Asia conflict (First Gulf War).
