U.S. ARMY 202ND SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Frquently referred to as a DUI or a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 202nd Support Battalion—designated as the 202nd Brigade Support Battalion and assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division when it was inactivated in 2009—was originally approved on 10 May 1967. A gold mural crown at the top of the insignia recalls the battlements of a tower and symbolizes the fortifications of Europe in World War II. The organization’s initial mission in France as the 202nd Quartermaster Gasoline Supply Battalion in World War II is represented by the fleur-de-lis; the five battlements stand for five campaigns in the European Theater.

In the center of the insignia is a dolphin, renowned for its speed, diligence, and commitment to service; it is winged in reference to the Flying Fish Channel, an approach channel to the port city of Inchon where the former Battalion was reactivated as redesignated as the 202nd Transportation Battalion in 1960. The gold disc refers to the Yellow Sea, while the red and gold colors commemorate the unit’s past in the Transportation Corps. “Best On Land And Sea,” the unit motto, proudly points to the organization’s successes at providing support for both ground and amphibious operations.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
