U.S. ARMY 202ND MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), or unit crest, has never been authorized for wear by a unit with any other designation because, quite remarkably, the Battalion has served actively under this single designation since 2 October 1982. In fact, the insignia was approved on 27 April 1982—nearly six months before the Battalion was even activated. The only change to the insignia was an amendment on 8 November 1993 to revise the insignia's symbolism and to add metric measurements to its description.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been
authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Originally activated at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey, the Battalion moved to Fort Gordon, Georgia in 1994 (it was redesignated as Fort Eisenhower in October 2023). The Battalion has maintained a forward deployed presence in Southwest Asia since 1990, and since that time has earned participation credit for all three campaigns in the Southwest Asia conflict, a pair of Army Superior Unit Awards, and three National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citations.

In addition, it received its first Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC) following its deployment during the First Gulf War; its second MUC was for its outstanding service between January 2004 and January 2005, followed by its third six years later for its support of the 415th Military Intelligence Battalion's counterinsurgency operations from January 2011 to November 2011. Two Detachments from the Battalion (one from Company C and another from Company D) Company C were also tapped for MUCs for their service between January and October 2013 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom while attached to the 319th Military Intelligence Battalion.

As of Autumn 2023, the 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion is assigned to the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade and remains stationed at Fort Eisenhower.
