U.S. ARMY 1ST MAINTENANCE COMPANY UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 1st Maintenance Company has been associated with the 1st Infantry Division since it was organized in January 1918 as a divisional element, the 1st Mobile Ordnance Repair Shop, in France (the division was simply the 1st Division at that time). As part of the division, it earned credit for participation in six campaigns in World War I, but was relieved from its divisional assignment in 1939. The Company served in every campaign of the Korean War, but was inactive for much of the conflict in Vietnam.

It received its current designation on 21 December 1972, and during the War on Terrorism has been the recipient of two Meritorious Unit Commendations. It is a subordinate unit of the 541st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion ("Pacesetters"), 1st Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade, and is stationed with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas.

The unit motto, “NON NOBIS SOLUMN,” is Latin for “Not For Ourselves Alone” and succinctly describes the unit’s mission of combat support.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
