U.S. ARMY 19TH MILITARY POLICE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 19th Military Police Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia—also called a DUI or a unit crest—was originally approved on 14 August 1998. Its green and yellow (gold) tone are the branch colors of the Military Police, and the chevron in the center of the shield recalls the mission of that branch by simulating a searchlight being cast over unlawful activities in search of the truth. A rose in the chevron is a reference to the term “sub rosa,” a phrase meaning secret; the black color symbolizes the clandestine aspect of these activities. The pair of swords denote the readiness and cooperation required to investigate lawlessness. “Truth Is Our Sword” is the unit motto.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Based at Schofield Barracks on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, the 19th Military Police Battalion provides criminal investigative services for U.S. Army units stationed in the Pacific Rim geographical area of responsibility, which in addition to Hawaii includes Alaska, South Korea, Japan, and Okinawa.
