Also called a unit crest and referred to as a DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 192nd Ordnance Battalion was originally approved on 20 July 1967 while the unit was still the 192nd Maintenance Battalion. The insignia was redesignated for the 192nd Ordnance Battalion, with a revised description and symbolism, on 1 February 2006; the symbolism was updated again on 23 February 2006.
A crimson shield signifies the unit’s affiliation with the Ordnance branch. In the center are a pair of crossed martel-de-fers, often called war hammers, with heads that extend to the edge of the shield; these symbolize the basic mission of the Battalion. Four upright spearheads are a reference to the four military services—Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines—to which the unit provides support. The quiet confidence of the Battalion’s personnel is expressed in the unit motto, “The Realiable One.”

Stationed at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), the 192nd Ordnance Battalion is one of two Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) battalions in the 52nd Ordnance Disposal Group (EOD). Its expertise has proven critical during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, both of which saw the exponential growth in the use of Improvised Explosive Devices. During a 2007-2008 deployment to Iraq, the 192nd Ordnance Battalion was responsible for the destruction of 43 tons of hazardous explosive devices, saving the lives of countless civilians and military personnel and earning the unit a Meritorious Unit Commendation.
In 2011-2012, the Battalion was tasked with the command and control of tactical and technical elements serving throughout three dozen forward operating bases, a force that under the Battalion’s guidance was able to defeat, target, and neutralize enemy-emplaced IEDs. In May 2013, the Department of the Army announced the Battalion had been awarded a second Meritorious Unit Commendation for its service during that deployment.
