U.S. ARMY 192ND MILITARY POLICE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 192nd Military Police Battalion was originally approved for the 192nd Field Artillery Regiment on 25 March 1927. Other organizations for which it was subsequently redesignated include the 192nd Field Artillery Battalion (July 1942), 192nd Artillery (January 1971), 192nd Chemical Battalion (November 2003), and 192nd Military Police Battalion (September 2008). A white shield signifies that the Battalion’s roots go back to the Infantry branch when the facings on Infantry uniforms were that color. A red cross stands for service in the Revolutionary War, and the blue saltire (“x” shape) denotes Civil War service. A fleur-de-lis in the red chief symbolizes service in France during World War I as an Artillery unit, scarlet being the branch color of Artillery. “Skill And Force,” the unit motto, recognizes the components of any successful military operation.

More information and guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The history of the 192nd Military Police Battalion goes back 26 June 1672 and the organization of the Fairfield County Regiment in the Connecticut Militia from existing bands of Infantry. Since that time, the organization has been reorganized, redesignated, and reconstituted a dizzying number of times, compiling a total of 31 campaigns credited to the Battalion over the course of five conflicts: Revolutionary War, Civil War, World Wars I and II, and the War on Terrorism. Coincidentally, that is the same number of branches (which include Infantry, Coast Artillery, Field Artillery, Chemical, and Military Police) in which the unit has been designated to serve over the course of over 350 years.

In addition to two Arrowhead devices awarded for participation in assault landings in the Leyte and Luzon campaigns, the Regiment is also the recipient of a Presidential Unit Citation and Philippine Presidential Unit Citation from World War II and a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009-2010. It was most recently called into Federal service when it deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in March 2020, marking the second time in four years that the Battalion had been assigned to the facility.

As of Autumn 2023, the 192nd Military Police remains an active unit in the Connecticut Army National Guard, with its Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) based in Niantic and its two subordinate Military Police Companies (143rd and 643rd) stationed in West Hartford and Westbrook.
