U.S. ARMY 192ND ENGINEER BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 192nd Engineer Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia, approved on 15 January 1971, commemorates the unit’s service in France during World War II with the placement of a fleur-de-list on a background disck of scarlet, official branch color of the Corps of Engineers, in the center of the shield portion of the insignia. Attached to the scarlet disc is an alternating series of five trowel bayonets and five castle towers, reflecting the number of battle honors the organization was awarded following the war’s conclusion. The unit motto, “Give Us The Tools,” exemplies the zeal for service of the unit’s personnel. [Note: units that entered the lineage of the 192nd Engineer Battalion through annexation took part in six campaigns in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater that are not represented on the insignia).

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

Headquartered in Stratford as of Autumn 2023, the 192nd Engineer Battalion is a unit in the Connecticut Army National Guard assigned to the 143rd Regional Support Group. In addition to service in World War II and the First Gulf War, the 192nd Engineer Battalion has been called into Federal service on several occasions since the launch of the War on Terrorism. In August 2006, thirty Soldiers from the Headquarters Detachment were deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and in September 2018 forty Soldiers were deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These assignments were, of course, in addition to the Battalion’s State mission of providing assistance in the event of emergencies or disasters.
