The design you see here was inspired by the XVII Corps’ shoulder sleeve insignia
, which is identical to the unit’s CSIB
, or Combat Service Identification Badge
. Combined with the dragon in the center, the wings enveloping the crest are emblems of the surprise and ferocity of airborne assaults, as well the Corps’ mobility and endurance; they also hammer home the unit motto of "Sky Dragons." Three stars at the peak of the crest represent the three campaigns in which the Corps participated in during World War II. White and blue are the colors used for all Corps insignias.
