U.S. ARMY 175TH FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SUPPORT CENTER UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 175th Financial Management Support Center unit crest, officially known as a Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI), was originally approved on 22 October 1986 while the unit was designated the 175th Finance Center. The insignia was subsequently redesignated for the 175th Finance Command (1993) and of course for the unit’s current designation (July 2012).

Scarlet and gold are the primary colors employed in the insignia; gold is one of the Finance branch’s two colors, with an upright silver sword adding the second. At the top, a gold spread-winged demi-eagle on a gold field recalls the common use of the National symbol on U.S. currency. Superimposed on the eagle’s breast is a gold disc containing a red-and-blue taeguk, a reference to the unit’s 40-year tenure at Yongsan Garrison in South Korea (the taeguk is also seen in the organization's Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI), or unit patch.

The aforementioned sword is a symbol of support for the Soldiers that the unit vows to “Serve And Defend” in the motto inscribed at the base of the insignia; the dedication and enthusiasm in pursuit of this mission goal is indicated by the red background. The sword is superimposed over the taeguk and a circular gold disc (called a bezant) in heraldry that symbolizes money (it is inspired by real money used by the Byzantine empire). The sword also simulates the Arabic numeral “1,” a nod to the fact that the 175th was the first Army Finance organization to operate in the Pacific Theater.

In August 2021, the 175th Financial Management Support Center cased its colors and was redesignated as the 175th Financial Support Center ina ceremony held at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
