U.S. ARMY 169TH COMBAT SUSTAINMENT SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also called unit crest or a DUI, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 169th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion was approved on 12 March 1969. In its center are three fleurs-de-lis that stand vfor three World War II campaigns in France that the unit took part in (Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes-Alsace), while the two black grape leaves allude to campaigns in the Rhineland and Central Europe. Additionally, the edges of the flanches simulate a sunflower and also relate to a wheel and thus refer to both the organization's homesite of Kansas and the unit's initial activation as a Transportation battalion. “The User Is King,” the unit motto, emphasizes the ultimate goal of a Support battalion: ensuring the success of the Soldier in the battlespace.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
