U.S. ARMY 167TH CAVALRY REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 167th Cavalry Regiment was an organization in the Nebraska Army National Guard that was originally constituted on 12 February 1964 as the167th Cavalry, a parent regiment in the Combat Arms Regimental System (CARS) that consisted of Troop E, an element of the 67th Infantry Brigade. It was reorganized on 1 October 1985 to consist of 1st Squadron, an element of the 35th Infantry Division, before it was withdrawn from CARS in 1989 and reorganized in the U.S. Army Regimental System.

In 2006, its sole Squadron, the 1st, was assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division for operations in central and southern Iraq, a mission for which it was awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation. A year after returning from that deployment, the 1st Battalion, 167th Cavalry Regiment was reorganized into 1st Squadron, 134th Cavalry in 2008.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Approved on 16 September 1988, the 167th Cavalry Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia features a shield of yellow, the color of Cavalry, with a black bendlet (narrow diagonal band) that symbolizes military strength and integrity. Superimposed over the bendlet is a mounted Pawnee Indian Scout that represents the state of Nebraska and the early years of the United States Army Cavalry there. “Ti Rah I Kuts,” the unit motto, is Pawnee for “Bold Ones
.”

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
