U.S. ARMY 15TH SUPPORT BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

The historical forebear of the 15th Sustainment Brigade, the 15th Support Brigade, was constituted in the Regular Army on 4 May 1966 as a Headquarters and Headquarters Company and activated on 1 July 1966. Deployed originally to Long Binh in Vietnam, the Brigade was relocated to Chu Lai during the early stages of Task Force Oregon and its assets used to support 23rd Infantry (Americal) Division Support Command.

It was inactivated in Vietnam on 20 October 1967 after having earned campaign credits for its support of Counteroffensive Operations (Phases II and III),  then reactivated 21 September 1968 at Fort Lewis, Washington; it was then inactivated again on 21 March 1973. In 2005, its Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) was consolidated with HHC, 1st Cavalry Division Support Command to create 15th Sustainment Command, now known as the 15th Sustainment Brigade.

The 15th Support Brigade Unit Insignia (DUI), frequently called a unit crest, features a millrind, traditional heraldic emblem indicating support, in the traditional Support colors of buff and scarlet. The two stars at the center of the millrind are for the two campaigns the Brigade took part in while deployed in Vietnam. “Support The Action” served as the motto for the Brigade, encapsulating the core mission of the organization.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
