U.S. ARMY 15TH PERSONNEL SERVICES BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 15th Personnel Services Battalion’s lineage goes back to the activation of Company A, 1st Replacement Battalion on 10 March 1942 at Camp Hann, California. It was subsequently reorganized and redesignated as the 256th Replacement Company and deployed to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, where it was inactivated on 15 December 1946. It was redesignated as the 256th Personnel Service Company and activated on 1 November 1965 at Fort Bragg (renamed Fort Liberty in 2023) in North Carolina and deployed to southeast Asia; it was inactivated in Thailand on 25 June 1971.

Nearly fifteen years would elapse before the unit was activated again, this time at Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos), Texas on 01 October 1985 when it was redesignated as the 15th Personnel Service Company. Assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, the unit would serve in that role until it was reassigned to the 3rd Personnel Group, which served in support of III Corps. It deployed to Southwest Asia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1990, returning to the U.S. in September 1991.

It was subsequently redesignated to its final designation when it was activated provisionally as the 15th Personnel Services Battalion on 11 August 1993. The change became permanent on 16 October 1994, and the unit would be tasked with a peacetime mission of providing direct support for 1st Cavalry Division. It was inactivated for the final time in April 2008, with its personnel having long ago proven just how "Committed To Service" they were.
