U.S. ARMY 151ST INFANTRY REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 151st Infantry Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia—commonly known as a unit crest or by the acronym DUI—was approved on 5 June 1935. “Wide Awake, Wide Awake,” the unit motto seen on the scroll attached to the shield portion of the insignia, recalls the watchword given by Governor William Henry Harrison the night before the historic Battle of Tippecanoe. Fighting under the Governor were the Indiana Rangers, a militia formed in 1807 that would go on to be viewed as the “founders” of what ultimately became the Indiana National Guard. Blue is used for the shield to denote the organization’s status an Infantry unit. A white fess (horizontal bar) contains a Roman sword representing the Regiment’s service in the Spanish-American War; a cactus for the unit’s mobilization for duty along the Mexican Border; and a fleur-de-lis stands for World War I service in France.

Distinctive Unit Insignias is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

In addition to the Battle of Tippecanoe, the 151st Infantry Regiment’s other pre-World War I battle honors include campaigns in the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and the Mexican Border Campaign. Receiving the 151st Infantry designation after being drafted into Federal service for World War I, the Regiment would be assigned to 38th Division and earn an uninscribed World War I streamer for providing replacement troops for front-line combat units. Still assigned to the 38th (Infantry) Division, the Regiment earned three campaign streamers from the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and helped the Division become known as the “Avengers of Bataan.” Other battle honors include campaign streamers from the Vietnam War and Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

As of Autumn 2023, the two battalions that represent the 151st Infantry Regiment, the 1st and 2nd,  are both elements of the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
