U.S. ARMY 14TH MILITARY POLICE BRIGADE UNIT CREST (DUI)

More commonly referred to as a unit crest, the Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) of the 14th Military Police Brigade was originally approved on 14 August 1968 for the 14th Military Police Group. It was given its current designation for the 14th Military Police Brigade on 2 June 1986. It features the international traffic sign for “STOP”—a circle containing a horizontal bar that divides the circle into upper and lower hemispheres.

The placement of the upper hemisphere upon the yellow pyramid creates a chevron, a symbol of the authority the organization possesses. The red of the small pyramid above the horizontal bar is for courage and awareness, while its black counterpart in the lower hemisphere is a reference to the Black Forest of Germany, the nation in which the Brigade was activated. Emerging from behind the pyramid are fourteen rays of sunlight; the rays are a sign of leadership, while their number points to the organization’s numerical designation. “We Give Our Best” is the unit motto.

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1,
Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
