U.S. ARMY 14TH CAVALRY REGIMENT UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The 14th Cavalry Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 14th Cavalry Regiment on 30 April 1940 and was subsequently redesignated for the 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment on 6 April 1949, reflecting the unit’s new name and role. It was redesignated a final time on 28 August 20000 with the description updated for the unit’s new status as a Cavalry unit, but the description was not changed until 7 January 2004.

“Suivez Moi,” French for “Follow Me,” is the motto under which the unit has served for ninety-plus years. Above the scroll with inscription is a yellow shied with a blue bend; yellow is the cavalry cover and blue was used to reflect the color of the troopers’ uniforms at the time the insignia was first approved. The dagger with wavy blade is a kris, a weapon used by the Moro in the Philippine Insurrection; the rattlesnake alludes to service on the Mexican border before and after World War I.

The 14th Cavalry Regiment’s lineage goes back to 2001 and the constitution and organization of the 14th Cavalry. It would undergo numerous redesignations/reorganizations over the next nine decades, but it would retain the numerical designation the entire time. Under various titles (Cavalry Group, Constabulary Regiment, Armored Cavalry, etc.), the unit saw action in the Philippine Insurrection (two campaigns), World War II (five European Theater campaigns, and the War on Terrorism (three campaigns). Regimental decorations include two Presidential Unit Citations during World War II, four Valorous Unit Awards (Iraq), and five Meritorious Unit Commendations, as well as two Army Superior Unit Awards for excellence in a non-combat mission.

As of Summer 2023, the Regiment's only active unit is its 2nd Squadron. It is assigned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division and is stationed at U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii.
