U.S. ARMY 145TH FIELD ARTILLERY UNIT CREST (DUI)

The 145th Field Artillery Regiment Distinctive Unit Insignia, also called a unit crest or DUI, was originally approved on 12 March 1929. It was subsequently redesignated several times to reflect the unit’s changing designations, including for the 213th Field Artillery Battalion (August 1942), 204th Field Artillery Battalion (August1 1950), 145th Artillery Regiment (April 1961), and again for the 145th Field Artillery Regiment on 14 July 1972. Its description and symbolism were revised on 11 April 1991.

A red shield denotes the organization’s status as an Artillery organization, while the gold fleur-de-lis commemorates the unit’s service in France during World War I. The canton (inset) in the upper left depicts the story of the 1st Field Artillery and the First Cavalry, Utah National Guard, predecessors of the 213th Field Artillery; the castle and the palm tree represent the First Battery Field Artillery’s service in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection, respectively.

A gold dovetailed border memorializes the service of the First Cavalry on the Mexican Border, with the canton denoting the 213th Field Artillery descends from these units. PRO DEO, PRO PATRIA is Latin for “For God, For Country.”

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The history of the 145th Field Artillery Regiment goes back to the constitution of Light Battery A, Utah National Guard on 8 March 1894. By end of the century, the Regiment’s forebears had already taken part in four campaigns in two conflicts, the War with Spain and the Philippine Insurrection.

Other campaigns credited to the units in the lineage of today’s 145th Field Artillery Regiment include an unspecified campaign in World War I; seven during World War II, with the organization being awarded an Arrowhead device for taking part in an assault landing on Luzon; and four during the Korean War. The Regiment is also the recipient of the a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation (145th and 213th Field artillery Battalions and 640th Tank Destroyer Battalion cited).

Today, the 145th Field Artillery Regiment's only active Battalion is the1st, which is assigned to the 65th Field Artillery Brigade, Utah Army National Guard.
