U.S. ARMY 143RD SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)_

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 143rd Support Group was originally approved on 4 October 1929 for the 43rd Division. It was redesignated for the 43rd Infantry Brigade on 1 September 1993 and for the 143rd Support Group effective 1 October 1997. Several reputable sources indicate this insignia was also worn by the 143rd Area Support Group, the successor of the 143rd Support Unit, and there is a strong possibility it was also redesignated fo the latest iteration of the unit, the 143rd Regional Support Group. However, The Institute of Heraldry’s Web page for the insignia lists approvals only through the 143rd Support Group. The images on the insignia are from the crests of four states; moving clockwise from the top left, they are Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Maine.

The 143rd Support Group draws its lineage from the 43rd Infantry Division, which was inactivated in May 1963 and redesignated as 43rd Brigade, 26th Infantry Division. The 43rd Brigade was relieved from assignment to the 26th Infantry Division in September 1993 and was reorganized and redesignated as Headquarters Company, 143rd Support Group. It was redesignated as the 143rd Area Support Group at some point in the later 1990s and carried that designation at least until 2004 when it deployed to Iraq under the 143rd Area Support Group designation.

It has since been redesignated as the 143rd Regional Support Group and is headquartered in Middletown, Connecticut. As of Winter 2023, it consists of the 118th Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 143rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, and the 192nd Multifunctional Engineer Battalion.
