U.S. ARMY 142ND MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Commonly called a unit crest or DUI for short, the Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion, approved on 7 May 1982, commemorates its origins in the state of Utah and the Utah Army National Guard with a wreath of sego lilies—state flower of Utah—atop a globe containing a beehive, a reference to the nickname “Beehive State.” The silver gray and oriental blue used in the insignia are branch colors of Military Intelligence, and the dagger superimposed over the beehive denotes the military preparedness of the Battalion; the globe denotes the world wide responsibilities and capabilities of the unit. “Into All The World” reinforces the global aspect of the Battalion’s work.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
