U.S. ARMY 141ST MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Often called a unit crest or DUI for short, the 141st Military Intelligence Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 21 February 1989, a little over four months after it was organized from new and existing units in the Utah Army National Guard. Its oriental blue and silver gray colors are the official branch colors of Military Intelligence. The shield is an emblem of the protection the unit provides for the nation, and globe inside it denotes the worldwide scope of its mission.

Inside the globe is the lamp of knowledge, indicating the unit’s constant quest to acquire and under the requisite knowledge to stay prepared. Behind the globe, a black sword signifies the covert nature of the mission while exemplifying the unit’s loyalty and its vigilance in the defense of freedom and the country. Rays of light emanating from the center of the insignia are adapted from the Military Intelligence emblem, simulating a compass rose and symbolizing the Battalions ability to respond anywhere around the globe. “Strength Through Knowledge” reiterates the importance of knowledge in fulfilling the Military Intelligence mission.

Distinctive Unit Insignias are worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.
