U.S. ARMY 135TH AVIATION REGIMENT UNIT CREST

Currently based at Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado, the 135th Aviation Regiment is tasked with a wide variety of non-combat missions, from conducting security operations to assisting in disaster relief efforts. The number of Battalions assigned to the Regiment has varied over the years; as of 2018, the Regiment comprises Headquarters and Headquarters Company, three companies, and eight detachments. The Regiment was formed in 1987 using the aviation elements of the 35th Infantry Division that were to the 135th Aviation Regiment under the U.S. Army’s Regimental System.

The design of the 135th Aviation Regiment’s Regimental Distinctive Insignia, or unit crest, was approved 28 April 1989. It features a winged lion clutching an orange lightning bolt; winged lions have been used for centuries to connote strength and courage, while the lightning bolt is a symbol of firepower. Inscribed at top and bottom is the unit’s motto, “Poised to Strike.”
