U.S. ARMY 129TH SUPPORT BATTALION UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

The 129th Support Battalion Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved on 21 June 1938 for the 29th Quartermaster Regiment. It was redesignated several times before it was finally approved for the 129th Support Battalion: in May 1950 for the 29th Transportation Truck Battalion (cancelled on 10 December 1951), for the 29th Transportation Battalion on 12 October 1956, and lastly on 12 November 1992 for the 129th Support Battalion.

Buff and blue halves make up the shield portion of the insignia; these are colors traditionally associated with the Quartermaster Corps, the unit’s original branch. According to The Institute of Heraldry, the “sun and snow-capped mountain are indicative of the home area of the predecessor organization,” but gives no indication what that organization might be or its location. CUNEUS CUNEUM TRUDIT is a Latin phrase that means “Wedge Drives Wedge.”

Full guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

After being redesignated as the 1st Battalion, 29th Quartermaster Truck Regiment following its 1936 constitution under practically same title (to with, simply “Quartermaster Regiment”), the forerunner of today’s 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion was deployed to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, where it served in four campaigns and was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation and Philippines Presidential Unit Citation. Following the war, it was converted and redesignated on 1 August 1946 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 29th Transportation Corps Truck Battalion—the first of five different designations it would hold while allotted to the Transportation Corps. As HQ and HQ Detachment, 29th Transportation Battalion, it would serve in two campaigns in Southwest Asia during the first invasion of Iraq and earn a Meritorious Unit Commendation.

In October 1992, the unit was converted, reorganized, and redesignated as the HQ and HQ Detachment 129th Support Battalion (Corps), a designation it would hold until October 2006 when it became the 129th HQ and HQ Company, 129th Support Battalion. During the War on Terrorism, the Battalion earned two campaigns serving in Iraq, Transition of Iraq and Iraqi Governance (other campaigns are yet to be determined), with its exceptional service being recognized through the award of four Meritorious Unit Commendations.

As of Summer 2023,, the 129th Support Battalion is the 129th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and is assigned to the 101st Sustainment Brigade (also referred to as the 101st Division Sustainment Brigade and the 101t Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
