U.S. ARMY 122ND SUPPORT GROUP UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. DUIs are not worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

For Enlisted personnel, the insignia is centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The 122nd Support Group Unit Distinctive Unit Insignia, commonly called a unit crest, was originally approved for the 135th Supply and Service Battalion on 10 December 1969. It was redesignated for the 122nd Support Group with revised symbolism on 27 April 1978.

A pair of crossed scarlet keys intersecting over a white diamond is an allusion to the flag of the state of Alabama, the unit’s home state. Keys also suggest the mission of service and support, while the white diamond-shaped squares suggest boxes and cartons associated with the supply mission. Three golden spearheads placed over a background of a wheat field gives an idea of the wide range of materiel which the unit is responsible for servicing and supplying to the organizations it is tasked to support. “I Support,” the unit motto, was also the motto of the predecessor organization 135the Supply and Service Battalion.

The 122nd Support Group was a unit in the Alabama Army National Guard. Also referred to as the 122nd Corps Support Group and 122nd Support Group (Corps), the unit’s Headquarters appear to have been redesignated as the 122nd Chemical Brigade in 1999 or 2000.
